Escape to the Surreal

This is a whole cloth quilt that was inspired by a piece of my own dyed fabric.

The fabric was dyed by bunching and tying up one end. It was then hung up with the free end in the dye pot so that the dye would wick up the fabric. Once the golden colour was set, I did the same with the other end into black dye.

Several colours and types of threads and many different quilting stitches added texture and design to the patterns on the cloth.

Some of the quilting designs were inspired by Linda and Laura Kemshall (The Painted Quilt) and Leah Day of Day Style Designs.

This quilt won the Award of Excellence for Abstract Wall quilt 1st Place at the 2010 Canadian Quilting Association National Juried Show in Calgary, AB

This is the second baby quilt made using the Bent Out of Square pattern. It measures 35” X 45”.

The quilting design was inspired by Double Hearts by Heather Thomas featured in Quilting Arts magazine Issue 51 June/July 2011. Some of my hearts were echoed 2, 3 and sometimes 4 times.
