Quilt # 36
Bent Out Of Square |
This is a little quilt that I made last fall as a class sample. It measures 37” X 46”. The pattern is from Karla Alexander's book Stack a New Deck. I really like this technique where squares of fabric are stacked, cut and shuffled to get a wide variety of colour combinations in each block.
block variations |
All the blocks for this quilt were made entirely out of batiks, using only 6 Fat Quarters .
I made these blocks using the same technique I use to make log cabin blocks but the free-form cutting gives each sets of blocks it's own “bent” out of square look. It is very freeing and fun experience.
Wandering Clover quilting design |
I free-motion quilted with a variegated multi coloured thread using a Leah Day's design called Wandering Clover although my version wanders a lot more (stippling) with the odd clover design here and there.
back |
The back of Bent out of Square is my own hand-dyed muslin.
Label - sorta |
This is a perfect baby quilt size and I have recently made two of them. You will see them in the next two posts.
