Take a Stitch Tuesday

Stitches 97 to 103

TAST Stitches 97 to 103

Four more samples for TAST this week with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.

Sharon has been presenting a new stitch challenge every week at Take a Stitch Tuesday.
She is presently taking a breather but has promised to returned if there is enough interest.

There are presently 140 stitches to choose from.

After practicing the stitch around a 4” frame, I try to come with a design using that stitch.
Am really loving the adding of beads to traditional stitches.
I always stitch the traditional stitch as the border and the version(s) of, in the centre.

Stitches 97 & 98 – Shell Chain and Beaded Shell Chain Stitches

I really like the beaded version of this stitch. I did this sample in a fine variegated wool.

Shell Chain and Beaded Shell Chain Stitches

Stitch 99 & 100 – Eastern and Beaded Eastern Stitch

I much prefer this stitch used singly and beaded rather than in a straight line as in my border. It might look better if it was beaded as well.

Eastern and Beaded Eastern Stitch

Stitch 101 & 102 – Triangular and Beaded Triangular Buttonhole

This is so easy and fast and I think there are many ways it could be used to make different patterns.

Triangular and Beaded Triangular Buttonhole

Stitch 103 – Beaded Butterfly chain stitch.

I think the Butterfly Chain Stitch is beautiful but can't say that I care for beaded version much. (Maybe it's just those bright yellow beads :-)

 Beaded Butterfly chain stitch.

I feel like I'm on the home stretch now that I have learned over 100 stitches.

Stitches 89 to 96

TAST Stitches 97 to 103

Four more samples for TAST this week with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.

I made four samples and learned 8 new stitches.

Sharon has been presenting a new stitch challenge every week at Take a Stitch Tuesday.

After practicing the stitch around a 4” frame, I try to come with a design using that stitch.
Am really loving the adding of beads to traditional stitches.

Stitches 89 & 90 – Twisted Satin Stitch & Twisted Satin Stitch with a bead

I really like the looks of both these stitches and they super easy to make. Placing them end to end makes a nice border and would look great with beads as well. I also like how they look beaded and scattered about on their own.

Twisted Satin Stitch & with bead

Stitch 91 – Straight sided feather stitch
Stitch 92 – Crossed feather stitch
Stitch 93 – Plated feather stitch

I like all feather stitches, they are so easy to make. My sample shows the Straight sided in the border. The crossed feather stitch is in two colours and the four rows in the centre are the plated feather stitch.

Straight sided, crossed & plated feather stitches

Stitch 94 – Reversed Buttonhole Bar

Fun to stitch and lots of options.

Reversed Buttonhole Bar

Stitches 95 & 96 – Linked Chain Stitch & Beaded Linked chain Stitch

Can easily be made in straight or curved line.  Linked Chain in the border and beaded in the circle.

Stitches 84 to 88

TAST Stitches 84 to 88

Four samples for TAST this week with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.

It has been a while since I did any embroidery samples. I love learning new stitches and seeing what can be done with them.

Sharon has been presenting a new stitch challenge every week at Take a Stitch Tuesday.
She is presently taking a breather but has promised to returned if there is enough interest.

There are now 140 stitches to choose from, so I still have over 50 to catch up.

After practicing the stitch around a 4” frame, I try to come with a design using that stitch.

Stitch 84 – Spiked Knotted Cable Chain

This stitch is easy once you get into the swing of it. The stitches in the border are the actual stitch. I think adding the french knots to the paisley shape makes it more interesting.

Spiked Knotted Cable Chain

Stitch 85– Raised Cup

I really like this stitch. Who would have thought you started with a triangle. I made the border by wrapping in the same way on straight stitches. I like the lumpy bumpy looks of it.

Raised Cup

Stitch 86 – Turkman Stitch

This stitch is nice whether in a straight or circular line.

Turkman Stitch

Stitch 87 – Buttonhole Picot (Version 1) made with Bullion Knot
Stitch 88 – Buttonhole Picot (Version 2) made with Chain

I found these stitches difficult to make, especially version one. It will definitely be version two if I make this again.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Stitches 80 to 83

Four samples for TAST this week with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.

Sharon presents a new stitch challenge every week at Take a Stitch Tuesday.

Take a Stitch Tuesday - Stitches 80 to 83
After practicing the stitch around a 4” frame, I try to come with a design using that stitch.

At the rate I'm going , I probably won't ever get caught up but I really enjoy learning new stitches and then trying to figure what I can do with them.

Stitch 80– Raised Chain Version 1

I really like the looks of this, gave a nice raised rounded shape as more rows were added to the base stitches.

Raised chain - Version 1

Stitch 81– Raised Chain Version 2

I didn't like the looks of this one as much as Version 1 which is probably due to the thread I used.

Raised Chain - Version 2
I like trying all different kinds of threads and wools. I found this at our Hobby Shop and thought I'd give it a try. It is called Sizzle by Red Heart, a 100% Nylon #2 (colour Fiesta Mix). It is very slippery and very hard to keep even tension on the stitches .

Stitch 82 – Spanish Feather Stitch

I think this stitch looks so elegant, I like it a lot.

Spanish Feather Stitch

Stitch 83 – Siennese Stitch

Fast and easy. I think a lot could be done with this stitch, see my corners. It is sometimes hard to figure out how to turn the corners.
Good filler, I used a varigeated wool and offset the stitches.

Stitches 75 to 79

Five more samples for TAST this week with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.

Sharon presents a new stitch challenge every week at Take a Stitch Tuesday.

TAST Stitches 75 to 79

After practicing the stitch around a 4” frame, I try to come up with a design using that stitch. Some of these were a bit of a challenge.

Stitch 75 – Woven Zig-zag Chain

I don't know if I did this one justice, not hard to do but it did take a good amount of time.

Woven Zig-zag Chain

Stitch 76 – Vandyke Stitch

I found this easy to do and I like how it looks.

Vandyke Stitch

Stitch 77 – Woven Cross Stitch

Really couldn't think what to do with one. Suppose the little crosses could have become flowers.

Woven Cross Stitch

Stitch 78 – Cloud Filling

Good filler, the hardest part is keeping the stitches at even distance.
Cloud Filling

Stitch 79 – Chained Cross Stitch

Had a hard keeping a straight line, I liked it curved better.

Stitches 71 to 74

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Four samples for TAST this week with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.
Sharon presents a new stitch challenge every week.  Hoping to catch up some day.

TAST Stitches 71 to 74

I especially liked all of these four stitches, although some were a little more time consuming than others.

Stitch 71 – Bullion Buttonhole Stitch

This one takes a little extra time but easy combination of the buttonhole and bullion stitches.

Bullion Buttonhole Stitch

Stitch 72 – Wrapped Coral Stitch

I found this easy to do and I like the looks of it too.

Wrapped Coral Stitch

Stitch 73 – Portuguese Stem Stitch

This one I like a lot even though I did not do the second wrap when I stitched my 4” frame.
It was a few days before I got back to it and decided to reread the instructions before doing the centre swirl, and that is when I noticed my boo-boo. Much nicer with 2 wraps.

Portuguese Stem Stitch

Stitch 74 – Zig Zag Chain Stitch

This one is OK but I found it a little harder to keep it neat looking. I like how it looks with 2 or 3 rows close together.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Stitches 68 to 70

Stitches 68, 69, 70
Three more samples for TAST with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.
Sharon presents a new stitch challenge every week. She now has more than 100 stitches of which I have now tackled 70. It is a lot of fun trying to figure what can be done with each stitch.

Stitch 68 – Slipped Detached Chain Stitch

I like this one a lot, it easy and fun to stitch

Slipped Detached Chain Stitch

Stitch 69 – Buttonholed Double Chain Stitch

This stitch just about did me in. I started with the top row and just could not keep the lines straight. I ended up stitching into the edge stitch of the buttonhole bar in order to stop the bar from flipping up and it also helped keep the lines more or less straight. I found this one very difficult to do. The french knot were an attempt to make my colour choice play nice together.

Buttonholed Double Chain Stitch
Stitch 70 – Crested Chain Stitch

I like this one, easy to do.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Stitches 63 to 67

It's been a while but here are five more samples for TAST with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.

Stitches 63 to 67

Stitch 63 – Scroll Stitch

I like this stitch but not sure this was a good use of it.

Scroll Stitch

Stitch 64– Top Knotted Buttonhole

I don't why it took me forever to figure how to wrap the needle because it is not that difficult. I like the look even if it was a bit fiddly to do.

Top Knotted Buttonhole

Stitch 65 – Buttonhole Bar

This is a nice chunky stitch iand so easy.

Buttonhole Bar

Stitch 66 – Coral Stitch

I love this little stitch, fast and goes every which way.

Coral Stitch

Stitch 67 – Fancy Hem Stitch

My border was not too successful, I think that my lines were too close together and that my wrap thread was too heavy, so I decided to do a little sampler and try different opinions.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

  Stitches 59 to 62

Four more samples for TAST with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle.

TAST Stitches 59 to 62

Stitch 59 - Breton Stitch

I found this stitch looked a bit awkward but did like the effect when overlapped.

Breton Stitch

Stitch 60– Diamond Stitch

Had to add some french knots at the intersection in the centre area as the knots did not show very well using the fine wool.

Diamond Stitch

Stitch 61 – Up and Down Feathered Buttonhole

So far, I've liked all the variations of the Feather Stitch, including this one.

Up and Down Feathered Stitch

Stitch 62 – Raised Cross Stitch Flower

My border is the first part of this stitch. These were fun to do.

Raised Cross Stitch Flower

I'm now two-thirds of the way through the TAST Stitches, I just may get caught up some day!

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Stitches 52 to 58

Seven samples for TAST with Sharon b. at Pin Tangle. http://pintangle.com/tast-faq/

Stitches 52 to 58

Stitch 52 - Triangular Feather Stitch

This is a nice variation of the feather stitch.

Triangular Feather Stitch

Stitch 53 – Herringbone Square & Stitch 54 Laced Square Herringbone

These two give a totally different look even though they start out exactly the same.

Herringbone Square and Laced Square Herringbone

Stitch 55 - Buttonholed Herringbone

This would make a nice edging. I added the French Knots

Buttonholed Herringbone

Stitch 56 – Sailors Stitch

Nice and easy, (more French Knots, my favourite stitch).

Sailors Stitch

Stitch 57 – Sailors Edge

Equally easy, you would think I could have made the centre square.

Sailors Edge

Stitch 58 – Woven Detached Chain Stitch

A little time consuming but I like the effect.
