Red Sky at Night

Mixed Media #4

Red Sky at Night

Red Sky at Night is the fourth piece I made using the techniques from Angie Hughes' book “Stitch, Cloth, Paper & Paint”. Blogging about these pieces has made me realize that I really want to experiment with more of this.

The background was stitched and painted (as per Construction Techniques below) in an abstract way. I embroidered both free motion and using decorative stitches on my machine, couched strings before painting the background.

The tree was appliqued and thread painted, as was the grasses and background trees.

This piece was professionally framed.
