Shadow Blocks

Quilt # 103

Shadow Blocks - front
This sampler was on my UFO Challenge list at Patchwork Times. I completed the top before the end of May which is when the quilt was supposed to be completed, but it wasn't quilted or bound.

But it is now. Has been for a while, just haven't got around to post about it.

My blocks were made while teaching a sampler class. There are still a few stacks of blocks sitting around from more classes.

Here are some close-up of some of the blocks:

Grandmother's Flower Garden
Paper-pieced Summer's Sun
Breadfruit Applique
Set-in Seam Stripped 8-point Star
Star of Hearts

Since I used the same fabric for the lattice that is in the background of the blocks I added a row of machine embroidery to define the blocks.

Shadow Blocks - back
I decided to only use 12 blocks on the front of the quilt but added 3 more to the back and used the Schoolhouse roof as my label.

These are incredible blocks! I love the way you set them off with the machine embroidery and the fact that you used the same fabric as lattice and background for the blocks was a great idea. I would never have thought to do that. It works wonderfully. The back is great too. This is definitely one of the most inspiring quilts I've seen lately. I want to start one right now!! But I won't because I have way too many UFOs already started.
